Program Description

Event Details

This presentation, Women of Natural History, is a celebration of women that have made significant observations that have changed our understanding of the natural world. From Queen Hatshepsut's botanical collections (1478-1458 B.C.E), to paleontologist Mary Anning (1799-1847), to biologist Rachel Carson (1907-1964), learn about prominent enthusiasts and experts of natural phenomena in history.

Kim White aka "The Natural Naturalist" taught for 20 years in the education area of Brookfield Zoo.

This program is in celebration of Women's History Month, which was first nationally recognized as National Women’s History Week by late President Jimmy Carter. In making this celebration official, he said: "Too often the women were unsung and sometimes their contributions went unnoticed. But the achievements, leadership, courage, strength and love of the women who built America was as vital as that of the men whose names we know so well."
