Program Description

Event Details

This presentation is perfect for those wanting to learn more about the fabulous world of fungi and how to forage wild edible mushrooms in Illinois. We’ll cover mushroom basics, such as learning about mushrooms through the seasons, where to find them, identifying characteristics, lookalikes, and how to keep an eye out for common local edibles. By the end of this presentation you'll have tools to help you I.D. several different edible fungal species and a basic understanding of our region’s mushroom terrain!

Liz Weinstein is the President of the Illinois Mycological Association, Photographer, and volunteer at the Chicago Field Museum's Mycology Herbarium. She is also conducting an ongoing project of photographing, surveying, and documenting the unique biota of mushrooms and fungi of Isle Royale National Park. You can check out her daily fungi photos on Instagram at @mushroomphotography.
