Program Description

Event Details

The road to suffrage for women in Illinois prior to 1920 was a long and arduous one. What a lot of people don't know is the fact that women's suffrage was deeply tied to sexism and racism and "triggered a fear of feminism whose roots are still seen today" (Schultz Angel, 2024, p. 3).  Join us as Illinois Road Scholar Jeanne Schultz Angel discusses the topic "Casting a Historic Vote: Suffrage For Women in Illinois", as well as the history of universal suffrage on a national scale.

Jeanne Schultz Angel is the Associate Vice President at Naper Settlement and lectures for Oakton Community College and McHenry Community College. We are excited to see her present just before the election this year!
