Sit back and enjoy a glass of wine, beer, or a non-alcoholic beverage, as well as light refreshments, while author Dr. Lavar Pope, presents about Hip Hop Culture, Rap Music, and Politics in the US and his new book: American Rap Scenes. Lavar's presentation and book covers:
- Hip Hop culture and outlines its construction
- Rap music within Hip Hop culture
- Rap music scenes (as related to music scenes) and factors in the local development of rap music
- Politics as factor in the development of specific local rap music scenes in the US
- Hip Hop as a social movement and rap music as a main message carrier of the movement
The talk will be followed by a Q&A session with the audience and a book signing. Copies of Dr. Lavar Pope's American Rap Scenes' books will be available for purchase.
Lavar Pope, PhD, is a Clinical Professor of Political Science and the Acting Director for Loyola University Chicago’s Center for Faculty Excellence. His first book, Rap and Politics explores the San Francisco Bay Area rap scene. Currently, he teaches courses in American Politics and other core classes. He has also taught courses on Power, Rap Music, & Urban America, Black Political Thought, and Race & Ethnicity.
